This policy applies to all learners enrolled in Britsafe™ qualifications, and it is intended to clarify the steps they can take if they believe a decision has been unfairly applied or inaccurately represents their achievements.
Purpose and Scope:
The purpose of this policy is to outline a clear and structured process for learners to appeal decisions related to assessments, qualifications, reasonable adjustments, and other aspects of their learning experience at Britsafe™ Qualifications UK Limited.
Definition of Appeals:
An appeal is a formal request by a learner to review a decision made by Britsafe™ Qualifications UK Limited regarding assessment results, adjustments, or administrative processes that affect their learning outcomes or qualification status.
Grounds for Appeal:
Learners may appeal if they believe that:
- An assessment result does not reflect their performance.
- An administrative error has impacted their results or progress.
- Reasonable adjustments or special considerations were unfairly applied.
- Malpractice or maladministration influenced the outcome of their qualification.
Appeals Process Stages:
Stage 1: Initial Review
Submitting an Appeal
The appeals process consists of three distinct stages:
- Learners must submit a written appeal within 10 working days of receiving the decision they wish to challenge.
- The appeal should include the learner’s name, contact information, details of the decision, and grounds for appeal.
Acknowledgment
- Britsafe™ Qualifications UK Limited will acknowledge receipt of the appeal within 3 working days.
Initial Review by an Appointed Staff Member:
- The appeal will be reviewed by an impartial staff member who was not involved in the original decision.
- The reviewer will assess the information provided and determine if further investigation is necessary.
Outcome Notification:
- The learner will be notified of the initial review outcome in writing within 10 working days.
- If the appeal is upheld, corrective actions will be outlined.
- If the appeal is not upheld, the learner will be informed of the reasons and provided with details on how to proceed to Stage 2.
Stage 2: Formal Appeal
Escalation of Appeal
- If the learner is not satisfied with the initial review outcome, they may escalate the appeal to a formal stage within 5 working days of receiving the initial outcome.
Formation of an Appeals Panel
- An Appeals Panel will be convened, consisting of at least three members: one from the assessment team, an independent senior staff member, and an external representative if required.
- Panel members must have no previous involvement in the learner’s assessment or the original appeal decision.
Review and Hearing
- The Appeals Panel will review all relevant documentation and may request a meeting with the learner (if applicable) to discuss the appeal further.

- The panel’s decision will be communicated in writing within 15 working days of the formal appeal submission.

- The awarding organization or regulatory body will conduct an independent review of the appeal.

Final Decision:
- The outcome of the external review will be final and binding.
